What's Our Approach?
Bridge X is a Process of Discovery
Brooklyn Bridge has always been an experiment.
It was a test of technology to determine if towers could be built in the East River to support the magnificent bridge.
It was a test of policy to anticipate whether the bridge could support New York’s economic development.
It was a test of community to see how two cities would change after construction of the bridge.
Today, we invite you to participate in the next vision for the Brooklyn Bridge.
Community Engagement
Let Community Ideas be the Drive for Design
We've spoken with elected officials. residents. cyclists. vendors. tourists. designers. advocates. New Yorkers.
Each has a meaningful voice to contribute to the process, and unique stories and perspectives to share.
"Who should the Brooklyn Bridge be for?"
"What do we need the Bridge to be?"
Design & Strategy
Reclaim and Create Space for All to Enjoy
Today, people need space and distance to comfortably navigate the outdoors. Tomorrow, the challenges may require even more creative approaches to providing space, services, and activities to accommodate a diverse range of needs. Working together and collaboratively, all visitors to Bridge X can play an active role in directing where design goes.
Transportation
A Bridge That Truly Connects
In a time when previous movement patterns have changed over night, Bridge X encourages more people to comfortably cross the bridge by diverting existing vehicular traffic through a multipronged approach. What could the bridge be in a future with fewer cars and more people walking and cycling?
Technology
Navigating and Interacting with the Bridge in New Ways
Bridge X offers a digital presence via its website and mobile phone application, in addition to traditional engagement methods. These digital elements introduce new ways for people to engage with the bridge infrastructure and community while providing Bridge X with a platform for collecting planning ideas and feedback. The dynamism of Bridge X welcomes a wide range of visitors, who in-turn inform future interventions.
